Social media is coming down hard on CNN after they asked a question that was completely unacceptable.
The news network published an analysis piece on its website following the birth of the first child to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The article barely passed the title before being condemned.
The subhead clearly asked, “How black will the Royal baby be?”
Seriously? CNN enterprise writer and producer John Blake penned the article that proceeds to define the child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as the first Afro-American child to be born into the English Monarchy.
TV writers and former CNN employees alike were set off by the controversial piece and slammed Blake for his lack of decency.
Former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien tweeted, “CNN needs more people of color working in the executive, decision-making ranks. Obviously.”
Palm Beach Post writer Leslie Streeter shared, “This is what happens when there’s 0 oversight and any idiot with an official handle speaks for the whole news organization. Bring back editors who stop you from showing your entire ass.”
Former network contributor Roland Martin chimed in with, “Hey Jeff Zucker, Amy Entelis, Ken Jautz and the @CNN leadership team. This is why [the National Association of Black Journalists] has called y’all out on no Black executives. This is one of the dumbest headlines this year. WTF?!”
At a time when the flagging network just laid off 100 employees, how did Blake manage to be one of those who stayed?
